Deutsche Postcode Lotterie
Germany became the fourth postcode lottery country when Deutsche Postcode Lotterie was launched in October 2016.
Good causes receive 30 per cent of the ticket price. The lottery supports a wide range of German initiatives and community organisations. These organisations work for education, development of the wellbeing of children and seniors, human rights and nature protection.
Money raised in each individual federal state helps fund good causes working in that state. A list of supported projects can be found at postcode-lotterie.de/projekte.
The concept is simple and familiar. A player's ticket is created from their postcode, which consists of the post number (Postleitzahl) representing their postal area and two letters assigned to their street. To make it unique, each ticket has a unique three-digit number. Players have the chance to win prizes every day and cash prizes are paid directly into players’ bank accounts.
The Monthly Prize gives players the chance to win a share of €1,400,000. Every Saturday, a prize of €10,000 is awarded to players in a lucky postcode. With five draws each month, prizes are won every day.

Results & key success factors
When Deutsche Postcode Lotterie launched in 2016, it introduced a unique concept to Germany: a social lottery in which players can win prizes together and support good causes around the corner, at the same time.
An independent advisory board (Beirat) led by the former chairperson of the Bundestag, Prof. Dr. Rita Süssmuth, decides on the distribution of funding.
