The Dutch market for online games of chance will open on 1 October 2021, with formal legislation being introduced. Novamedia will apply for a permit to offer online games of chance in the Netherlands.
From 1 October 2021, the first permits for online games of chance will be issued in the Netherlands, expected to be granted to around 60 commercial gambling companies. Social enterprise Novamedia owns, among others, the format of the Postcode Lottery, the lottery where you have a chance to win great prizes with your neighbours and donate to charity at the same time.
Play with peace of mind
Novamedia will apply for a permit to offer online games of chance in the Netherlands. It will develop online games for this purpose and choose its own route. 'We want to make a distinctive offer by creating a platform for a broad audience, where you can play with peace of mind; safely and responsibly', says Michiel Verboven, CCO of Novamedia.
Novamedia wants to show that online games of chance can be different, with fun games and strict money and time limits. In compliance with the regulations for responsible gaming (and the even stricter regulations Novamedia imposes on itself), the games focus solely on recreational players who know they are safe and can enjoy online entertainment without any risks.
Verboven: 'For us, no "heavy users", but games that suit us; for a broad audience, easy to understand, where you can participate with pleasure. We are not taking any chances; our plans are still in full development.'
Now that the online market is also opening up in the Netherlands, Novamedia wants to seize this opportunity to offer online entertainment with this kind of permit. Just like the lotteries are visible on television with their formats.
At the same time, Novamedia can research and follow how innovations in this specific market can inspire us to keep the Postcode Lotteries future-proof at home and abroad. And thus in maintaining the high contribution to society. Everything Novamedia does, is dedicated to its mission: raising money for a better world.
